Welcome to Maui: Day Nine

21 April 2015

We followed our morning routine of breakfast on the balcony, then down to the beach for some swimming and tanning.  Speaking of tanning, by this point in our vacation, I had a wonderful golden brown tan starting—even on my hands and feet—which is something incredible for a pale person like me who usually just burns (seriously, I don’t think I’ve ever had a tan in my life)!

It was truly amazing sitting out on our balcony every day.  We were on the fourth floor, so we had a great view in every direction.  We could watch the waves crash into the rocks in from of Kamaole Nalu (our hotel), people watch, see people snorkeling in the coral reef, swimming at the beach, and just take in the beautiful views, like the mountains!

At the beach, Michelle and I went snorkeling out at the reef again.  We saw all kinds of cool fish and coral.  Michelle even saw an eel!  We saw cornetfish, triggerfish, Moorish idol, butterflyfish, unicorn surgeonfish, pufferfish, and sea turtles!  The snorkel flippers are super cool and make swimming so effortless and quick.  I really enjoyed it.  If I lived somewhere warm, I would buy my own snorkel gear for sure.

Snorkeling was actually really great exercise (and we had a lot of fun taking photos underwater)!

We spent a lot of time at the beach, then when the waves and wind started up, we went to our room. Michelle and I went for a long walk, then came back to our hotel to swim in the pool. Raye joined us in the pool for a while.  Then Michelle and I sat on the lawn chairs in front of our pool to soak up some sun.  We had dinner, then went for another long walk.  That’s another thing I loved about Maui—how active we were.  We went for multiple walks every day as well as swimming for hours.  You don’t really even notice until you go to bed at night just how tired you really are.  We watched a bit of tv, then went to bed, as all the walking, swimming, and sunshine really tired us out! Until next time, Aloha!!

Night walks along the beach were one of my favourite things.
