Today’s Top Pick

tumblr_o1y514kZbN1ulshhio1_500My pick for the day is MTV’s Scream.  Based on the film series of the same name, Scream is a slasher horror television show that premiered June 30th, 2015 on MTV.

Set in the small town of Lakewood in the US, the show focuses on a group of teenagers navigating their lives, all the while trying to survive a serial killer.  The show starts with a brutal murder, leaving residents of Lakewood shocked and scared.  Memories of Lakewood’s past serial killer, Brandon James, and many town secrets start to be revealed as the characters fend for their lives.

The main characters in the first season include good girls Emma and Riley, bitchy Brooke, outcasts Audrey and Noah, jocks Will and Jake, and new guy Kieran.  The dynamics between these characters grow and change as the season goes on and more people are murdered.

As the season continues, you start to learn more about the past serial killer (though by the end, you’re still not sure of the true story of Brandon James), and each character’s secrets are being discovered.  Literally everyone seems suspicious, from the teenagers themselves, to parents and cops, everyone had secrets that made them look guilty.

scream bloodI watched season one in two days (which would have been one, but I had to work…sigh…) with my mom and sister.  We started the show late at night on Sunday, and let me tell you, it was so much creepier than I ever thought it was going to be.  You hear “teen show” and MTV and immediately think cheesy, lame, teenage drama.  While Scream had those qualities, it also had that terrifying horror aspect to it.

This show actually left me incredibly creeped out after watching it.  I went to bed and every noise had my heart jumping, not to mention when I was home alone earlier today and every noise made me nearly have a heart attack.

The big reveal! Who is the killer?
The big reveal! Who is the killer?

I literally loved Scream and can’t wait to watch season two (when it airs and then comes out on dvd, because sadly I can’t watch things online).  The mystery behind who the killer was was so fun to guess as the season went on and I can’t wait to see where they take this show in season two.

Do you watch Scream?  I’d love to hear your thoughts!
